Do you remember the Christmas Patchwork Quilt I made?  A picture to jog your memory?

Christmas Quilt

My friend, Carly, wrote up this pattern for her Etsy shop. It uses one layer cake (pre-cut 10 inch squares) and one charm pack (pre-cut 5 inch squares). It is a GREAT quilt for beginners!  The top goes together quickly since you’re using pre-cut fabric.

So guess what?!?!?  Carly is letting me sell her patterns in my store.  And I’ve made this exact quilt available as a kit!  So  you can make one too! Even better?  This particular kit includes the backing!  You can find it here.   :-)

Christmas Fabrics for my quilt

Speaking of Christmas….we are about HALF WAY through this year!  WOW!  So even though it’s nice and warm outside – it’s not too early to start your Christmas sewing!   Did you join in the Advent Calendar Sew Along?  I guess I did since I have the button on my blog….but I haven’t made anything yet.  In fact, we have never even used an Advent Calendar in my house.  Oh well.  If you’re looking for Holiday fabrics for the sew along…or for any project,  I have added a few new things to the Seasonal Fabric section of my website.

Okay so you’ve stuck with me this long….why not have a little give away?!?!?  I would love to send ONE person the kit and pattern for this super fun Christmas Quilt.  Just leave me a comment telling me what are some of the gifts you would like to make for the holidays this year.  I like to leave these up for about a week but we’ll be leaving town next week.  So I’m guessing that I’ll need to wrap this up after the weekend.  So comment away!  And if you don’t win…well you know where to find them! :-)

  1. Hi! Love Quiltville’s patterns too! I have 3 of them including this one that was used in the Christmas patchwork quilt. I love it in those fabrics! Love your website too! I’m thinking about making some small table runners and possibly some Christmas quilts for gifts this year.

Nancy – you have to send me some pics of the quilts you have made! I love how she always captures the feeling of the fabric so perfectly in her quilts!

  2. I would love to win that kit!

    Melanie Reply:

Thanks! Have you thought of any Christmas gifts you plan to make? I think my list is too long and I still have 6 months. :-)

  3. What a great give away! Of course, you already know I won’t be making anything as holiday gifts, nor should you enter me in the drawing! However, your quilt is great. You are doing some amazing things with your business!!!! WOW.

    Melanie Reply:

LOL – I can’t wait to see you guys too!

  4. I want to make some of your little notebooks and fabric napkins for gifts!

  5. I might like to make some bags for the women in my life….just an idea. :)

    Melanie Reply:

You can do it! Maybe I should bring my machine to WY and we can make one together. I’m always up for making more bags. :-)

  6. *sorry, I have a bad habit of leaving comments on the wrong post for wordpress accounts!

I have all kinds of quilt ideas to make for people this Christmas, but I really need to make my husband a quilt to enjoy this winter (you know, as cold as it gets in Dallas!)

    Melanie Reply:

Don’t worry Abby! you’re not alone, and I still would have entered your name!

  7. Love the quilt! I always like to make clothes for the grandkids & a little something else-I think this year it will be clowns/pixies made from yo-yos! I have the first one almost done & lots more yo-yos made-they are really cute! I will probably make some bags, too, but the men will be left out (again). I’ve never found the right thing to make for any of them!

    Melanie Reply:

Yes! Me too- I feel bad cuz the boys always get left out. I really want to make them something, but nothing seems right. PJ pants is as close as I’ve come. Oh yeah, and fabric covered mouse pads.

  8. Just inserting this for Jess: I think I’m going to make some craft apple mini patchfolios for Christmas this year :D.

    Melanie Reply:

The mini patchfolios are some of my favorite things EVER!

  9. What a great quilt, I love it! I think I may make matching pj pants for the 3 soon to be 4 boys I live with (hubby and 3 sons- one is still cooking 7 weeks left). My sons would think that is really cool to be just like dad. Maybe I’ll make a tree skirt or two for some of my siblings, who knows I haven’t thought about it that much yet. Just trying to get through the last 7 weeks of being pregnant. Thanks for the give away!

    Melanie Reply:

Yes – make it through the last few weeks! Then you can think about what to make for your boys :-) congratulations!

  10. Way cute! I would love to win your kit!
I’m hoping to make some aprons for sisters and sister-in-laws this year. I better get started.

    Melanie Reply:

Aprons are a great gift! Thinking about a few of those myself!

  11. I love that quilt! You did such a nice job on it.
I am hoping to make gift bags for the gifts under the tree & the ones that have to be mailed. I am hoping to make some stuffed animals for P. & I wanted to make a Christmas quilt like the Halloween one I made last year…. I am not sure that I will have the time for all of it this year with moving & everything, but that is my list! :)

    Melanie Reply:

You have a lot on your plate. :-) I know that you will get some great things made though!

  12. Pajamas. Thats what I’m hoping to make for my girls this coming Christmas.

    Melanie Reply:

Pajamas are great! Trying to decide if I want to make them again this year. The good thing is now my daughter will wear pants – so I could make all the kids PJ pants and embroider a cute design on a shirt…yep now it’s on my list too

  13. Adorable fabric! Mom wants a table runner for Christmas, so that’s one thing. My sister wanted something with a Halloween theme, so she’ll get that for her birthday (because it comes before Halloween). And I love to make fabric Christmas cards and quilted postcards.

    Melanie Reply:

I did some of my Christmas cards last year – but not all of them! I need to make some more just for general use. :-)

  14. We draw names in my husbands family, and I have been making lap quilts for each of his siblings. So far I have done 3, with only 2 more to go. I also make at least one thing for my kids, since Santa brings all the store-bought toys. I have to figure out what I’m doing this year pretty early, since my baby is due 3 days before Christmas!

    Melanie Reply:

WOW! You’re going to have your hands full on Christmas! Congrats :-)

  15. I would love to make some bags for teachers gifts.

    Melanie Reply:

Great idea! I need to think more about teacher gifts too – think I can make the same thing as last year since they are different teachers?!?!?

  16. Awesome Giveaway Melanie. Thanks for blogging about me.
I am not thinking of Christmas yet, Wisconsin just warmed up!
But Jammies sound good to me..

  17. I just found your blog from Carly’s blog! Merry and Bright is one of my all time favorite Christmas collections from Moda. I would so so so love to win this! It would make, not only my day, but my whole year! Thanks for the opportunity. :)

Oh, and for Christmas I try to do mostly handmade gifts- especially quilts!

    Melanie Reply:

Aw- that is so sweet! I love this collection too!

  18. I’m planning on making some crayon rolls for my nieces for Church. I love Merry & Bright, so this is a fab giveaway!

    Melanie Reply:

I need to come up with a church activities bag for my kids too. Thanks for the idea :-)

  19. Just looking at your lovely quilt is making me crave hot cocoa! Last Christmas I made hand and feet prints of my children with green and red paint on some muslin. I did this fully intending to make them into stuffed ornaments for the grandparents. Unfortunatley the holiday crept up on me, as it always does, and they didn’t get finished. This year, I hope to complete those and make a set with updated little prints. Maybe I’ll make it a tradition! Now for that cocoa…

  20. What a cute quilt! I’d love to win a kit. For holiday gifts, I’d like to get a few quilts put together. One contemporary fabrics and the other traditional. A few table runners and maybe a new tree skirt. If only there were more hours in a day. :)

    Melanie Reply:

If only indeed! I need about 10 more hours each day. :-) I am thinking I’ll need to make a new tree skirt too – but I doubt I’ll get it done this year.

  21. Love this quilt! Well since I just started quilting I’m planning on giving quilts to all the family members!

    Melanie Reply:

Wow! how many quilts will that be? I’m thinking I’d like to make more for the family too – but I’m kinda scared to think of all the quilting that would have to be done! Practice makes perfect though – right?!?!

  22. Where do I begin with the Christmas presents to make? Probably should start on those I didn’t finish for last year’s Christmas and the big one would be a family photo quilt for my Father. He is huge into geneology and I’ve really got to get the ideas and sewing machine going for him. I’d also like to make the kids coordinated outfits before they get to old to be completely embarrased by mom’s sewing.

    Melanie Reply:

LOL – I’m glad I’m not the only one with unfinished gifts from last year. :-) I’d love to see your photo quilt when you do finish!

  23. This is an adorable quilt kit and I would love to make it up for one of my sons.

As I commented on the wrong post already with this info, I’ll just summarize here. I will be making pillowcases again for each of my nieces and nephews. Plus I’ve been working on a cross stitch stocking and advent calendar that will either need to be sewn or framed.

I’d also like to do some quilted stockings for our family, but this may have to wait until next year.

    Melanie Reply:

don’t worry! you’re not the only one that has left it on the other post as well. :-) I love the pillowcases – that is such a cool idea!

  24. I love that you just dove in and did free motion quilting!! I’m so intimidated :) Hmmm, thinking about Christmas already? I’m such a procrastinator, so I’ll definitely be making something with fabric since I’ve built up a nice little stash. I’ll prob decide around Thanksgiving :)

    Melanie Reply:

ha ha – I like to THINK I’ll be done by thanksgiving – but I know myself well enough to know that I probably won’t have even started.

  25. That’s a beautiful quilt, I’m thinking about making some purses, some coffee cozy and maybe some placemats, and other kitchen stuff for Christmas gifts. I’m going to keep the projects small and relatively simple since they will be my first handcrafted Christmas.

    Melanie Reply:

That is awesome! I love that you’re incorporating handmade into your Christmas this year. My goal this year is again all handmade! Although the kids will probably get a few store toys from Santa.

  26. OH, what a beautiful quilt! It’s very generous of you togive away the kit! This year I’ll make quilts for my niece & nephew along with some purses & make up bags for my sisters and Mom. For my Dad and brothers…I”m not sure. Any suggestions?

    Melanie Reply:

Emma – I wish I had suggestions! I am stumped with boy gifts too – PJ pants?!?!?

  27. I want to say that I am a big fan of your store on Etsy. I buy fabric for my store Milkshake Baby to use in it! I love hearing about other mom’s with this love for crafting. I love your summer ideas blog too!

For Christmas I’m going to be making some key fobs for teachers and friends, patchwork skirts for some cousins (all girls), bags, and I’ll be embroidering hand towels and kitchen towels for friends too! I did find a free pattern for lavender eye pillows that worked wonderfully last year. I might make a few more of those.

    I love suggestions!!!

    Melanie Reply:

I love your store too :-) I think that you have given me suggestions already! you should add your stuff to my flickr group!

  28. Well, duh, I think I commented on the wrong post (the one below) so I’ll put my name in the hat here, too, and cover all bases.

That is just the cutest quilt – such beautiful fabric. I would be over the moon if I won.

For Christmas this year, I am making a quilt for my best friend and I usually put together a stocking or fancy gift bag for my mum with all kinds of ‘open before Christmas’ gifts inside. There will probably be more added to the list before the holidays, though.

    Take care,

    Melanie Reply:

You’re not alone! It’s confusing when you’re on the main page it’s up at the top – who goes back to the top to leave a comment?!?!?

What kind of stuff do you put in the open before Christmas bag? That might be just perfect for a few of my friends!

  29. For Rebecca: Oh, I would SOOO love to win this kit! I’ve never made a real quilt yet (save the doll quilts I made with Grandma as a kid), and would love to try making one!! My plan for Christmas this year is to make all the gifts for my neices and nephews, brothers and sisters, and most for my kids too. My ideas right now are tutus, superhero capes, tagee blankets, dresses (obviously, I’ve only thought of the kids so far!) Thanks for the chance!

    Melanie Reply:

the kids are a good place to start! :-)

  30. For Jan Richards:I would like to make the grandkids matching Christmas fabric
pjs and nighties. Love the Christmas quilt pattern and kit.
    Would love to win.

    Melanie Reply:

PJs are a popular one! Love them :-)

    THANKS : )

    Melanie Reply:

Welcome to sewing! I can’t wait to see what you make :-)

  32. I think I’ve caught all the comments that went to the wrong post :-) I am loving these ideas – I need to start a list now! Keep em coming!

  33. Great kit! I’m hoping to make some handbags for my sister’s this year, a table topper for my Mom, and a baby quilt for my sister’s new baby (arrives in Nov, so I can have the quilt ready for Christmas).

    Melanie Reply:

Fun stuff! And a new baby in your family too! woo hoo! that’s way fun :-)

  34. Awesome! I am just starting to quilt. This would be a great way to start you say? *wink wink* Gorgeous quilt, love the fabric too!!

I am hoping to make throws for everyone this year. So, I’d better get started 😉

    Melanie Reply:

Yes, best get started. Thanks for the nudge – I’ve got to get the name drawn tonight!

  35. I’ve only made one quilt thus far, and have a second one on the go. CUtting the fabric is the worst part! (I’m hoping it will grow on me…) A kit is a great idea….hmmm.
I’m making a small quilt for my neice, a larger quilt for my older neice & probably about a dozen quilted zip pouches for friends. And who knows what else, Christmas is pretty far away still!

    Melanie Reply:

That is one of the things I love about Carly’s patterns – they make great use of the precut fabrics – of course you can also cut it yourself…but it’s so easy when you use precuts :-)

  36. well, I too put my entry in the ‘introducing’ post. Oops:)
I’ll try again here. This is so very generous of you. I am newish to quilting….but love it very much! Last year I sewed tutu’s and Barbie clothes for my daughter and neices for Christmas. I would never have thought to start thinking about Christmas now but I think a baby quilt (an easy one) would be perfect for my newest neice.
Thanks for the chance at this giveaway. It’s awesome!!

    Melanie Reply:

LOL- no worries – I’m looking in both places! My heart skips a beat too when I think about it…so much fabric fun!
