How about this adorable skirt over on Moda Bake Shop? With Vintage Modern, please and thank you! (Or should we make that bold Pezzy Prints instead?)

How about the fun Ziggy Baby pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew? Love the color blocking!

Need a super cute cover for your sewing machine? Or some delightful pincushions? Thimble Blossoms has you covered! (Yeah, the pun was intentional. )

And I love how Heather quilted her recent zig-zag quilt! You can really see the pattern on the back!

Zigs, Zags, Chevrons! We love them all! (OH! and we have Thangles too – making Half Square Triangles a piece of cake!)

(And don’t forget to add photos of your zig zag (or other Lola Pink creations) to our flickr group!)

This free Cathedral Window Pincushion tutorial can be found over at Moda Bake Shop. It’s like sewing and origami all in one! And since it’s such a cute little package and only one window, maybe it’s not so overwhelming?!?!

(And if you need a little bling for your pincushion – check out Etsy! I love this Alice in Wonderland Eat Me Cupcake from Pinks & Needles! )

Anyway, the pincushion would be super fun with the Pezzy Prints charm pack! Or A Walk in the Woods. Summersville would be so fun because it could be like a little window peeking out onto a town! And don’t forget Vintage Modern! That would be so so sweet. We love Moda Bake Shop for inspiration! And their charm packs too! (You can find all of our pre-cut fabrics here!)

I’ve gone through the class twice now and there’s definitely been a big improvement in my piecing .. finally!

For the first quilt I made, I chose some of my favorite fabrics that we had in the shop at that time. There’s some Kate Spain Central Park, Momo Just Wing It, Tina Givens Opal Owl, and Anna Maria Horner Innocent Crush just to name a few.

I liked how it turned out … just don’t look to closely … so many mistakes! I just have to keep reminding myself that I learned a lot while making it which was the entire point!

For the second go-round with the class, I chose to use all Kona Solids and I really like how it’s turning out. Yep, the class I took ended months ago and I have yet to actually finish it.

I’m thinking about adding a light grey outside border, probably Kona Ash and doing little Ash cornerstones to break up the white a little bit. Will have to play with it and see how it’ll look.

Truth be told, I have to redo one of the blocks too … I went to cut it down to size and cut it waaay to small. If I cut the others to match, I’ll mess up all the points. So I’ll either redo it or add a really, tiny border to get it back up to size. Ugh .. I can’t believe I messed it up like that!

It’s supposed to rain here all day Sunday … yay!! Hope to get lots of sewing done. Getting 4 Swoon blocks prepped and have a tank top that I want to make along with a Schoolhouse Tunic to finish and a dress sample to start on. Whew … should be a busy day!!

xo, Jen

If you’re like me, then there is no such thing as too much fabric in your stash OR too many patterns/books in your library! When we opened the shop, we could have gotten by on just the books I already had .. that’s assuming I’d be willing to part with them, which of course I am not!

Here are a few of my favorites ….

Girl’s World by Jennifer Paganelli is simply stunning! So many gorgeous and girly dresses, accessories, and home decor projects. If there’s a girly girl in your world, this is a “must-have” for your library. Oh, and if you go to our Facebook Page, the ever-generous Ms. Paganelli is giving away something special to the first person to buy the book and show her the receipt.

Another “must-have” if you sew for children is Oliver + S Little Things To Sew. A whole book full of fabulous Oliver + S patterns! So many projects to choose from. My favorites are the Little Red Riding Hood Cape for girls and the Explorer Vest for boys. So cute and not your typical patterns. She also has a simple, modern quilt that is definitely on my to-do list.

Sew Serendipity by Kay Whitt is definitely in my library. I think it was one of the first books I bought when I started sewing. So many great skirts, tunics, dresses and jackets. I’ve been dying to make the skirt that is pictured on the cover for so long! I think it would look amazing made from the Domestic Bliss collection. Hopefully we don’t run out before I have a chance to snag me some. I better get to it!

There are several quilt books I could have chosen for my favorite but I chose this one, Block Party, because I so want to get a swap group together and make some of these quilts. Love the quilts, love the improvisational nature of them, love the scrappiness … absolutely love it all. If any of you are interested, let me know and we’ll see about getting a group together.

Quite honestly I could have sat here the rest of the day and listed all the books in the shop and my reasons for loving them so but I’ve got more orders to get out! I would love to know which books are your favorites … always looking to add to my stash!

And don’t forget it’s not just the books that are on sale through Sunday … all of our patterns are on sale too! Even the new ModKid ones!

Hope you’re having a great Friday!

Did any of y’all have an Easy Bake Oven growing up? I absolutely LOVED mine. I was making cakes all the time even making them for neighbors on their birthdays. And although they weren’t the best cakes ever, I was so proud of them! The Easy Bake got me started and my love for baking grew from there.

It’s so fitting that the first quilt I ever made and finished was the Easy Bake by Cluck Cluck Sew.

This quilt, quite honestly, could not have been easier. One – you can use a layer cake which means half the work is already done for you.

For those who don’t know, a layer cake is 10″ by 10″ squares of fabric from an entire collection. You usually get a couple of squares of each fabric in the collection. We have several in the shop now under Precuts & Fat Quarters. They really do make things a whole lot easier when making a quilt.

And two – you can stack up several layer cake squares and cut them all out once, yes! I’m all about saving time and getting to the sewing!

The most time-consuming part for me was trying to figure out which fabrics to use for the individual blocks. For this one, I kept most of the red, purple, and green fabrics in one block set and the blues in another. Then it was just a matter of spacing the blues throughout the quilt so they didn’t get bunched up.

For the back, I used Kona Solid in White and a charm pack from the same collection. A charm pack is the same as a layer cake only it’s 5″ square rather than 10″ squares.

I kept the quilting pretty simple. I just lined the edge of my presser foot up against a seam and sewed a straight line on either side of the seam. Anywhere there was a seam, I sewed my straight lines.

Although the quilting was pretty easy, I love how it looks on the back.

Truth be told, I have yet to actually stray from straight-line quilting yet but I’m working up the nerve.

I’ve got one more finished project to share, a rag quilt that turned out pretty cute and some strip quilts that are just about finished. Other than that, I’m still chugging along on my Swoon quilt for the Swoon-Along although I’ve run out of Kona Snow and it won’t be back in stock until next week – boo! And I cut some fabric for my third Schoolhouse Tunic .. yep, I said third! My love for the Schoolhouse will need a blog post of its very own.

I would love to know what y’all are working on and whether or not I’m the only one with project-ADD? I mean seriously .. it’d be great if I could just focus on one project at a time but that’s just not happening!

xo, Jen
