The BERNINA Foot-of-the-Month for March is the #63 Zigzag Hemmer Foot (3mm). This means you save 25% off the #63 hemmer foot for both new and old style machines.

You just got to love a foot that makes your life so much easier! BERNINA’s series of hemmer feet allow you to take a raw edge of fabric and have it double-folded and stitched all in one motion. No more burning your fingers with the iron while trying to fold perfect 1/8″ seams and then trying to keep your stitch straight.

BERNINA Foot of the Month - April 2014 63 Hemmer The genius of this foot is the little scroll-y bit at the front of the foot. Once you feed your fabric through the scroll, it double folds the fabric before it gets to the needle.

63 Hemmer CloseupThe trick to using the #63 Zigzag hemmer, and all the hemmer feet, is to make sure you feed the fabric evenly keeping it in the scroll. Once you get the fabric started, just hold the fabric up a bit and let it feed smoothly. I suggest practicing first with some scraps to get the hang of it but once you got it, your good to go.

BERNINA’s Foot-of-the-Month for February is the #23 Applique Foot.  That means you save 25% off the #23 foot for both new and old style machines through the end of the month.

BERNINA Foot of the Month - Feb 2014With its clear sole, you have an unobstructed view of the needle and stitching area which makes placing your stitches exactly where you want them so much easier. The cutout underneath the foot allows bulky satin stitches to pass under the foot without catching even around curves.

The #23 foot has a small hole on the front of the machine where you can feed small cord or thicker thread such as perle cotton to create a raised satin stitch or reinforce the edge of a fabric.

Tip: When creating satin stitches, run your bobbin thread through the small hole in the finger of your bobbin case  or change to your embroidery bobbin case. This will increase the bobbin tension and pull the top thread to the back preventing the bobbin thread from showing through on the edges.

The style of the Oliver + S Croquet Dress is perfect for these Joel Dewberry prints.

I just love the Oliver + S patterns. They are so easy to follow and well written. The finishing details they put into the patterns elevates my sewing level considerably. I always feel a great sense of accomplishment after completing one  of their patterns. If you’ve been intimidated by their patterns in the past, you must come in and let us help find a good one for you to start with. They’ve got several that are geared more towards beginners.

We’ve got the entire collection of Oliver + S patterns available anytime as PDF downloads including their retired patterns you can’t find in paper form anymore. We also have a good selection of their paper patterns in the shop too :)

I’m working on the their Roller Skate Dress now using the new Violet Fields, Waterfront Park fabrics. Stay tuned … this one is turning out super cute too!
