The last Monday of September….and therefore the last of our celebration of National Sewing Month. And I’d have to say….

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!

Seriously you guys!  Totally awesome stuff you’re making!!!!  I hope you will all go look at the pictures, and I wish that I could share them all here! Please keep adding more pictures as you finish projects.  Who knows, I might surprise a lucky person now and again with a little blog feature.   ;-)

Many people I know start sewing (again) when they have children.  It’s just fun to make them stuff.  So I figured that I HAD to do a feature on children’s clothing.

Amanda sent me these photos of little lounge sets.  LOVE them!  And love that they are for little boys – because how often do our little men get left out of the sewing fun?  Too often!  She sent me several pictures – so be sure to look at them all in the Flickr pool.  The Cowboy print is from Alexander Henry and the Monkey print is from Moda!  Thanks, Amanda for emailing them to me!

And Ericka shared with me these adorable outfits she has made for her daughter.

skirt and shirt

This was made by sewing together Soiree charm squares and cutting the Little Hip Skirts pattern out of the pieced fabric. Way cute appliqued shirt too!

cuppycake

And this Cuppy Cake dress is soooooo cute! She used the Riley Blake Just Dreamy Fabric. Love it! Great job, Ericka!

Okay so I just have to include one more this time as well. I was so excited when Rebecca added this picture

It is one of Patty Young’s new patterns that will be released at Quilt Market next weekend! Rebecca was one of Patty’s pattern testers. She use fabric from the Mezzanine collection to make this adorable skirt and appliqued shirt. I love it! Can’t wait to get my hands on the new patterns!!!!

Thanks everyone for playing along!  You’ve been great!

You read my blog.  I’m going to guess that the likelihood that you know of Patty Young is pretty high….but just incase…..

In relation to this business of mine, Patty is a fabric designer and pattern writer extraordinaire.  Michael Miller Fabrics prints her lovely designs.  And her company, ModKid, handles her patterns.    Her first line was Andalucia.

This summer she released Mezzanine.

And now on her blog she has revealed her third collection.  Flora and Fauna.

So I need to make room for her newest collection….which means that ALL of Andalucia is now on sale.  (I  need to go get Haley something made with the Mod Bloom corduroy.  It’s too cute and perfect for fall.  Maybe I’ll do that tonight……)

In fact, the whole Sale Section has been updated.  What is left of Sandi Henderson‘s Ginger Blossom is also marked WAY WAY down.  And as a super extra added bonus – this week all the Sales items get bonus points!  More cash back for your future purchases!!!!  (Read up on the Reward Points here.)  Only 2 weeks until Quilt Market!!!!

This weekend (I’m reclaiming my weekends by the way) I made several things!  Yay for sewing!  One project was a new bag for me to take to Market.  It is from a Melly & Me pattern, Meadow.

I used prints from Moda’s Wonderland and Michael Miller’s Andalucia – plus Amy Butler on the inside.

  • Tweedle Dum (light floral)
  • Pepper (Polka Dot)
  • Kiwi Jester (Green Harlequin)
  • Espresso Pod Ditz (Brown Floral)
  • Grey Wallflower (inside of bag)

I like how it turned out.  And the whole time I was sewing it, I talked to myself in an Australian accent – so that was pretty fun.  (Melly & Me is an Australian company…in case you didn’t know.)  The instructions were well written and easy to follow.  (Just FYI, Australians sew in inches, so you don’t have to convert everything to centimeters!)

The only change I made was adding a zippered pocket to the inside.  I figured that a secured area in a bag this large is always a nice option.  Zippered pockets are easy to add.  I might get around to showing you how some day.  ;-)

On a related note, my husband has asked if he could be a guest blogger.  He would like to show you all the bags I have and take a vote on if I am out of control.  :-)

I’m actually unpacking my bags from the trip to the International Textile Expo….and that means I’m going over the fabric I ordered. (A general review is on the way…maybe tomorrow)  Oh, I got great great stuff!!!! Anyway, I thought I should bring to your attention a new section on my website.  It shows you when the products are expected in stock and allows you to pre-order items!

arriving-soon

And the first items to go in there are Patty Young’s ModKid Patterns.  Have you seen these? Seriously adorable!!!!  They should arrive the end of next week!

I can’t decide which I’ll make first….I love them all!  You can go pre-order and I’ll get them shipped out to you as soon as they arrive!  Use the code MODKID to order now and get free shipping on these patterns!

(US orders only.  The code is only good until the patterns are in stock.  Expected Friday, March 10th or so!)

Thank you so much for all your kindness. :-)  I’m so excited to see who wins!!!  I have started a spreadsheet to keep track of all the entries.  Whew!  Who knew I was creating so much work for myself?!?!?  I’m also TRYING to respond to each comment – but that is a ton of work too and it might take me the full 2 weeks to get it done!

So yesterday I was having one of those computer days.  You know the ones?  Where you want to do something seemingly simple – and it just won’t work?!?!?  I was at a point where I had 2 options.

A.) Throw the computer through the window.

B.) Go sew.

I knew A might make me feel temporarily victorious over the computer – but even in my frustrated state, I realized it wasn’t the best long term solution!  So sewing won again – plus I wanted to make Haley a Valentine’s dress with some cute Andalucia fabrics.  Oh, how I love that fabric!  Of course, as soon as I showed it to Haley, I knew there was no chance it would make it until Valentine’s Day.  ;-)  She wore it today.  I took a couple pictures while we were at the park playing.

I’m hoping she’ll let me make her a belt with the Andalucia ribbon – but she is an opinionated little girl.  She already has a matching headband, but try as I might, she refused to wear it today.  Now, if I can come up with a way to make her think it’s her idea…..

Today marks the one year date for my business!!!!  (Or I really should say one year ago today, I had my first sale.  :-)  )  It has been quite the year.  I could go on and on about how much I have learned.  How things are so different than I had thought they would be, the ups, the down, etc. etc.  But really I think most would find that a bit on the boring side.  So then, we’ll skip the boring and go straight to the exciting!!!! A bit of  free always excites people – right?

How could I forget to tell you about the ribbon?  It sucked me in at Quilt Market.

Andalucia is a new line of fabric from Patty Young for Michael Miller Fabrics. It should arrive this week. YOU WILL LOVE IT!!! So I figured since I would have the fabric, I should have the ribbon to go with it as well.  Makes sense, right?  Anyway, the ribbon is already listed on my website.  If you’re interested in buying some ribbon, use the code RIBBON on orders over $10 to get free shipping (in the US.)

Anyone who receives a key fob from me at Christmas, please act surprised.  And happy.  And I’ll pretend they are difficult to make.  A couple little girls I know are also getting belts from the wide ribbon – but they aren’t reading the blog so who cares if I tell you!  I have plenty of the hardware and webbing for the key fobs and D-rings for the belts too – but they are not listed.  I was actually thinking of making a little package deal for those – but the details haven’t come together yet, so if you want those, just email me.  Really easy and fun stocking stuffers!

So there you go!  Now you know about the ribbon!  :-)
