I can’t believe the month is half over already! Someone slow it down!!!! There are at least 2 brand new collections arriving this month that I want to make sure you know about! I’ll do one today – and maybe one later this week!
City Weekend from Liesl of Oliver + S will arrive this month. It’s available in cottons and select prints are also knits. Liesl lives in New York City, which obviously influences her great style. She is also a mom and that means her styles really can be worn by children. I’m not sure how to approach this – but I think some of us might overlook her designs because they are not flashy and that means they don’t “show” as well online. I’m not trying to underestimate you guys (or rather, gals!) but I want to make sure you don’t overlook this line!
Her patterns are not fussy and really focus on great design details. She has designed for well known fashion leaders (like Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger among others) so you know you’re getting high end design when it comes to City Weekend and Oliver + S. Please have a look at her blog! (what’s that? a link to click on?!?!?) You won’t be disappointed…plus it’ll show you the fabrics in use! Yay!
The yardage of cottons and knits are to arrive sometime this month – and the newest patterns are in transit to me! See all the fabrics here (yep…that’s a link…you can click on it!) and sign up to be notified as soon as they arrive! You definitely won’t want to miss out!
Aunt Heather took us to Sealife up in Tempe while she was visiting. I figured the least I could do was make the girls cute dresses to wear while we were there. 😉 And what better fabric for visiting an aquarium than Patty Young’s Gold Fish? I ask you that!
Since we were short on time, I used the KISS method when planning the outfits. The two dresses took 1.25 yard of fabric (3/4 for Haley’s – 1/3 for Leah’s) and less than 2 hours to make. Some elastic thread and wa-la. Two dresses for the aquarium!
(The lighing inside was not ideal for photographs – but here are a few more photos!)
It’s like a play date for grown-ups! Take some time to work on a project with a bunch of super awesome fun women in the Tucson area! Email me for directions!
Does it cost? Nope! Just bring yourself, your sewing machine and your project! If you want to bring some wonderfully delicious food to share with others for lunch or a snack, feel free! But it’s not required at all. The point is just to get together with others that share your interest. We have a great time!
Am I forgetting something? Post any other questions and I’ll try to answer them here! Can’t wait! See you soon!
I was shocked when Patty Young‘s newest fabric showed up on my doorstep! I was told to expect delivery in July. Well, I’m super happy it’s here! And it’s super happy too! (Yes, fabric has emotion in my house. Okay?)
Playdate is a relatively small collection with 16 fabrics and a rag doll panel!
Now the info overload starts. I’m going to try to keep it simple….I promise!
I’m testing out Fat Eighth sets with this line. A fat 1/8 will measure approximately 9 inches x 22 inches in size (a quarter yard cut in half vertically). Not only is this an awesome way to sample the line of fabric, but you can also use it in tons of quilt patterns and all the stash books that are being published. You get to choose Fat Quarter, Fat Eighth or Half Yard Set. Each set comes with one doll panel. Find them here!
The doll panel includes 3 dolls on each panel. Each doll measures approximately 18×7 inches in size. Patty talks more about the evolution of her ModKid “Potty Girls” on her blog.
PLUS for Memorial Day weekend only – use the code PLAY for 15% off ANY of Patty’s fabrics or patterns!!!! That includes what is left of Andalucia, Mezzanine, Flora & Fauna and her ModKid patterns! (The Stella bag is already 30% off with the bag sale…so it’s not included. I figured you’d rather have 30% than 15%, right? And just in case you wondered, Patty has the best patterns on the market. Hands down!)
And can I just quickly remind you how awesome Patty’s fabrics look with Denim? (which is back in stock!) Here is a recent creation with the Frida pattern and her new Playdate Goldfish print. How fantastic, no?!?!?
Alright – that should do it for this post! I have a few other things I want to share with you, but in the interest of organization, they’ll be separated into their own post. (WOAH – me trying to be organized?!?!? You can be impressed. )
I get by with a little help from my friends
Check out this quilt that Elena made! Isn’t it fantastic? It’s the Popp’n Posies Quilt Pattern by Izzy & Ivy. We used Bloom & Grow for the fabric. Throw in fantabulous turquoise Jumbo Ric Rac, 3 delightful colours o velvet ric rac and you’re got yourself one adorable quilt! (Yes, I make up words, and sometimes I pretend I’m British…espcially when I’m listening to the Beatles and so I have to spell accordingly.) Anyway….I’m very very glad I have a friend who loves to quilt! And she is SO good at it too! Wouldn’t you agree?!?!?
The kit is availalbe here. It’s also available in the Just Dreamy fabrics (also by Riley Blake)
By the way, I’m considering starting every single post with lyrics from songs. Wouldn’t it be fun to play a little game. Like you had to guess the artist? But it couldn’t be super easy like the Beatles and Google would probably ruin the game. I’d have to work hard to be sneaky. Hmmm….maybe next time because
If I listen close I can hear them singers
Voices in your body coming through on the radio
Haley has been asking me to make her the Kyoko shirt for a long time now. Like maybe a year. So sometime last week I finally got around to making it for her!
Let me tell you – these ModKid patterns are amazing! They are full color books with great instructions and pictures to illustrate the steps. I really really enjoyed sewing it. (So much so that the next night I made the Isabel dress. Pictures coming on that one too.) Some of Patty’s newest patterns have already sold out! Yay! More are coming – I promise!
The fabric I used is from Moda’s designer, Momo. She is Japanese and the fabric, if you ask me, couldn’t be more perfect. It’s the Odyssea line – the main print is Calypso (in Kelp) with the accent of Nautica. I made the obi using Art Gallery’s Nature Elements. These blenders are wonderful! I find myself using them over and over! Binding is Luxe from Charisma (which is on sale!)
Anyway – we love it. I love it. Haley loves it too. (And yes, she is wearing jeans – by her own choice! ) A mom at Haley’s school ask where she could buy one. That always makes me smile.
Speaking of sales – this week 20% off of ALL Michael Miller fabrics. Even the sale fabrics!!!! Use the code MMF09 when you checkout. (good through Nov 1, 2009) I actually think it was Michael Miller that got me excited again about sewing. They have SO many great prints. The Ta Dots – the kids prints – the fun floral – and their desingers. We all love their designers!
Alright, I’ve got some end of bolts that need listing….
